Foothills Parkway West - Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The western section of the Foothills Parkway spans 16.5 miles from US 129 on Chilhowee Lake to US 321 near Walland, Tennessee. This is the longest open portion of the Parkway and was opened to traffic in 1968. This is one of the more scenic drives in the Smokies and has the advantage of attracting far fewer visitors than Newfound Gap and Little River Roads. I made the drive on a Sunday afternoon in mid-October 2015. I stopped at several overlooks on the way from Walland to the Look Rock parking area to take pictures, but I decided to experiment with mounting a camera to capture a couple of videos of the fall colors on the return drive. I've also posted the videos on YouTube instead of using Blogger's internal video display to provide a higher resolution image.

There is no fee to enter Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The park website is http://www.nps.gov/grsm/index.htm.
