Completed in 1996, the Cherohala Skyway connects Tellico Plains, Tennessee with Robbinsville, North Carolina. Along the 43-mile route, the only facilities are a few picnic tables and vault toilets. Additional amenities are available at the Indian Boundary Lake campground deep in the Cherokee National Forest.
We stopped at the visitor center in Tellico Plains in early May 2017. The non-profit visitor center is operated by Monroe County. It includes an information desk, gift shop, clean restrooms, and a small theater room where a short video about bear safety is played on request. The theater room also doubles as an exhibit room. Outside, a pavilion covers four picnic tables. In all our travels, this is one of our favorite visitor centers.
