Battery Point Lighthouse, Crescent City

Our August 2013 trip continued with a visit to the Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City, California.  The lighthouse was operated from 1856 until 1965.  It was reactivated as a private aid to navigation in 1982 and is operated by the Del Norte County Historical Society.  It currently houses a museum and gift shop as well as living quarters for the volunteer caretakers.

The initial path to the lighthouse is accessible...

Parking and access to the lighthouse grounds are free.  The landbridge consists of gravel and rocky terrain and is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.  A tour of the lighthouse including the lantern room is $3 per person.  The lighthouse website is http://www.delnortehistory.org/lighthouse/.
