Driving on the Tennessee side of the park along Little River Road in mid-September 2013, we stopped at a pullout across the river from the mouth of Meigs Creek. The 25-foot high Meigs Falls is far enough upstream to require binoculars or a camera with a decent zoom to see it clearly.
Meigs Falls is across the Little River |
Meigs Creek drains a fairly large area, so there is always water over the falls |
There is no official trail to the falls, although we have seen people wade across the river to get a closer view |
The higher than normal rainfall for 2013 provided great flows into late summer |
The Little River was flowing too fast to consider wading across. |
There is no fee to enter the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The park website is http://www.nps.gov/grsm/index.htm.
