Cades Cove Loop Road from a Bicycle

We rode our bicycles around the 11 mile Cades Cove Loop Road again on a Saturday morning in June 2014.  On Wednesday and Saturday mornings through the summer, the loop road is only open to bicyclists and pedestrians until 10 AM.  This non-motorized access to the cove provides a completely different feeling to the journey.

Looking back toward Rich Mountain after about 1.8 miles

Fog lifting across the cove from the same location as above

Looking back across the field to the road already traveled from the overlook at 3.7 miles

Fog still obscures Thunderhead Mountain from the same overlook

The fog was clearing at the west end of the cove...

...revealing the ridges marking the state line

Open fields on the western end of the cove

No entrance fee is charged at Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
