Cruising Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Our late July 2016 trip to Lake Superior continued with a 2½ hour cruise along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Pictured Rocks Cruises, a park service concessionaire, departs from the dock in Musining, Michigan on an hourly basis from 10 AM until 8 PM during the summer. Spring and Fall schedules are much more limited. Because the weather forecast the previous day had shown a good chance for rain, we did not purchase our tickets in advance. Instead, we bought them at the ticket office and gift shop near the pier. Tickets for the cruise we took are $38 per adult (13 years and older). Seating is not assigned, so people queue up early to stake out their seats on the open upper deck or the enclosed lower cabin. The cruise employees were helpful and friendly. The captain pointed out many geological features along the shore and provided an educational and entertaining commentary throughout the voyage. This is a cruise we would take again if we are in the area.
