The National Park Service and the United States Forest Service have combined forces to operate an interagency visitor center at 400 E Munising Avenue in Munising, Michigan. Since the lakeshore and forest are closely intertwined along the south shore of Lake Superior, this seems to a commonsense approach that provides maximum resources for visitors with minimal expenditures for both agencies. Visitors can learn about recreational opportunities in both the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Hiawatha National Forest. The visitor center has most of the usual amenities, including an information desk, interpretive displays, bookstore and restrooms. We visited on a Saturday in late July 2016.
