The Cottonwood Visitor Center at Joshua Tree National Park is located 6.8 miles north of Interstate 10. The visitor center houses the usual information desk, exhibits and displays, and gift shop. Restroom facilities are located in an adjacent building. There is no theater or park movie. This visitor center also doubles as the fee collection station for visitors arriving from the south. The result of this additional operation is that the parking lot is almost always full since most visitors have to stop to pay the entrance fee. While the turnover is rather quick, it does lead to quite a bit of congestion. Paved parking is available for five RVs, 18 passenger vehicles and two handicap placarded vehicles.
