We thought we were taking a break from touring the grounds when we stopped at Cafe 29 for a bite to eat. The cafe provides a limited menu of sandwiches and salads via counter service. It is housed in the former automobile garage of the estate and connected to the Frist Learning Center. Across the bricked plaza are the former stables and a very small, eclectic gift shop. A series of informational displays are mounted on the back wall of the garage. These include information such as:
- Construction of the mansion began in 1929
- The estate was occupied in 1932
- Cheekwood is a combination of family names of Leslie Cheek and his bride Mabel Wood
- Leslie Cheek owned stock in the Cheek-Neal Coffee Company when it was sold to the Postum Company, now known as General Foods
- Cheek-Neal Company's primary product was Maxwell House Coffee
- "Good to the last drop" was reportedly uttered by President Theodore Roosevelt at The Hermitage in 1907
