Continuing our February 2021 visit to Charleston, I spent several hours at Patriot's Point touring the World War II aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) and the destroyer USS Laffey. The Yorktown was originally designated as the Bonhomme Richard, but was renamed Yorktown after Yorktown (CV-5) was sunk after the Battle of Midway. Second of the Essex class ships, she was commissioned in April 1943. After being decommissioned in 1947, modernized and recommissioned in 1952, Yorktown served in Korea and Vietnam before being decommissioned again in 1970. Yorktown has been a museum ship at Patriot's Point in Charleston Harbor since 1975. The ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Adult entrance to the museum is $27 and includes access to the USS Yorktown and USS Laffey as well as the Vietnam Experience and the Medal of Honor Museum. The USS Clamagore was closed to visitors due to Covid-19 restrictions when I visited the museum. Other tickets are available for active duty, retired military, veterans, first responders, teachers, seniors, and children. An adult annual pass is $69. Discounts for an adult ticket are often available online, but not on the museum website.
