Meigs Falls - Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Continuing my early December 2015 drive east along Little River Gorge Road, also known as Little River Road, I stopped at a long pullout opposite Meigs Falls. The 25 foot high waterfall is 4.7 miles east from the Townsend Wye and 12.5 miles west of the exit from Sugarlands Visitor Center. This is one of only three major waterfalls in the park that are visible from the roadside. The others are The Sinks and Place of a Thousand Drips. Due to the recent rains, both Meigs Creek and Little River had high flow rates. Images from a previous stop in September 2013 are here. Notice that the park service has trimmed the foliage back to provide a view similar to when the road was first opened.
