Chisos Mountains Basin - Big Bend National Park

We stayed at the Chisos Mountains Lodge during our September 2021 trip to Big Bend National Park in Texas. Staying in the park provided us with several more hours of time each day in the park without the need to drive outside the park for lodging. From the heart of the park at Panther Junction, it is 25 miles to Terlingua, 67 miles to Marathon, 98 miles to Alpine, and 125 miles to Fort Stockton. However, it is less than 10 miles from Panther Junction to Chisos Mountain Lodge. Due to its location, the lodge is very popular and lodging often requires booking months to a year ahead of your arrival.

The Chisos Mountains are the remnant of a large volcano that was active about 35 to 40 million years ago. The basin area was most likely one of the calderas.

An entry fee of $30 per vehicle, $25 per motorcycle, or $15 per person is valid for seven consecutive days at Big Bend National Park. Other fee payment options include the America the Beautiful - National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands passes including the Annual Pass ($80), Senior Pass ($80 for a lifetime), Access Pass (free with a documented disability), and Military Annual Pass (free for active-duty personnel). Also available is a Big Bend National Park Annual Park Pass for $55.
