The Painted Church - St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church

Another stop on our February 2014 visit to the Big Island was at the Painted Church.  The church moved from near the shore to its current location to be closer to its parishioners in 1899.   Much of the previous building was used in the construction of the current facility.  Father John Velghe painted the murals using ordinary house paint on the wood walls and ceiling.

There is no fee to enter the church.  A donation box has been provided to allow visitors to help maintain the facility and assist with the ministries of the church.
