We rode our bicycles around the 11 mile Cades Cove Loop Road again on a Saturday morning in June 2014. On Wednesday and Saturday mornings through the summer, the loop road is only open to bicyclists and pedestrians until 10 AM. This non-motorized access to the cove provides a completely different feeling to the journey.
Looking back toward Rich Mountain after about 1.8 miles |
Fog lifting across the cove from the same location as above |
Looking back across the field to the road already traveled from the overlook at 3.7 miles |
Fog still obscures Thunderhead Mountain from the same overlook |
The fog was clearing at the west end of the cove... |
...revealing the ridges marking the state line |
Open fields on the western end of the cove |
Rich Mountain from mile 7.3 |
