Upper Tremont Road was originally the path of the Little River Railroad in the early 1900s. The gravel road begins at the gate just beyond the turn to the Tremont Institute and continues three miles to a large gravel turn around and parking area. The road follows the Middle Prong Little River to its source at the confluence of Lynn Camp Prong and Thunderhead Prong.
We visited in early March 2016. The road was in remarkably good shape for having not been graded since the previous fall. A few large potholes require constant attention to driving, but several pullouts allow even the driver to enjoy the scenery.
