We continued our July 2016 visit to Isle Royale National Park with a guided hike to an overlook named Lookout Louise. We had planned to kayak to the trailhead, but the winds were a bit too high for the safety rules of the rental concessionaire. Instead, we bought tickets for a guided hike that included transportation to the trailhead on The Sandy, a vessel operated by Rock Harbor Inn. A thirty minute boat ride from Snug Harbor to the Hidden Lake dock allowed us to see the lodge and Scoville Point from a different perspective.

In 2016, tickets for the excursion to Hidden Lake and returen on
The Sandy are $38 per adult and $19 for children under 12. The excursion operates on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Entry to Isle Royale National Park is free. However, the park charges a daily user fee of $4 per adult (over 11 years) per calendar day. This fee is not covered by the Interagency Annual Pass, Interagency Senior Pass, or the Interagency Access Pass. In addition, this is the only national park that completely closes for the winter. The island is closed from November 1 through April 15.
