Our first choice for watching the sunset in Badlands National Park was the Pinnacles Overlook near the western end of Badlands Loop Road or SD-240. However, with the small herd of bighorn sheep grazing at the edge of the parking area, we decided to travel a bit further into the park to avoid disturbing the sheep. We had already chosen the Conata Basin Overlook as our backup location in case the Pinnacle parking area was full, so we continued on SD-240 to continued to the Conata Basin Overlook at MP 22.6. This is 12 miles southeast of the I-90 interchange in Wall, South Dakota. We visited in August 2017.
