I had the opportunity to stop at The Sinks on the Tennessee side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park again in March 2017. This man-made waterfall was created in the late 1800s when loggers used dynamite to free a massive log jam at a bend in the river. So much dynamite was used that a new course for the river was created.
The river flow was much higher when I visited The Sinks in December 2015, as can be seen here.
The river once flowed to the right instead of across the rocks |
Little River Gorge Road crosses the river just above The Sinks |
A couple of kayakers |

Entry to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is free.
