We continued our March 2018 visit to Grand Canyon National Park by extending our walk along the South Rim on the Rim Trail from Powell Point to Hopi Point. The trail is about ¼ mile between shuttle stops and about one-third mile from overlook to overlook. From the Powell Point shuttle stop, the trail is on the paved shoulder of the access road, a distance of about 400 feet. This shouldn't be a safety issue as the only traffic for nine months of the year are the free shuttle buses and other park vehicles. Just before the access road meets Hermit Road, the paved trail splits off to the right. About 150 feet off the road, the trail surface turns to rock and gravel for about 500 feet before arriving at the Hopi Point shuttle access road. Along this rocky section, a split rail fence is to the left of the trail, leaving visitors free to walk the wide area between the fence and the rim.
