Howe Garden - Cheekwood Estate and Gardens

We continued our early September 2018 visit to Cheekwood with a stroll through the walled Howe Garden. The rationale for this garden is explained in a plaque mounted on a small bridge:
Mrs. Harry A. “Cora” Howe was an early 20th century resident of East Nashville who loved cultivating here extensive landscape garden. For almost 40 years under her care, the garden she named “Wildings” became a beacon for all those who loved beauty and serenity. Upon her death in 1967, a dedicated group of gardeners from The Garden Club of Nashville, a member of The Garden Club of America, moved significant elements of that garden to this site.
The landscape you experience today at Cheekwood is inspired by Mrs. Howe’s original garden in East Nashville. It is through Cheekwood’s “Wildings” Garden that Mrs. Howe’s love of native plants and passion for landscape gardening lives on today.

Another plaque describes the iron gates.

Admission to Cheekwood is $22 for an adult. A one-year membership is $65. Other ticket options are available.

The Cheekwood website is https://cheekwood.org/.
