As we continued our October 2015 trip to the Outer Banks, we decided to bike the northern portion of the Roanoke Island Bike Path. After parking at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, we rode south into Manteo to Roanoke Island Festival Park before reversing course to the end of the trail at the foot of the US 64 bridge across Croatan Sound on the northwest end of the island. North of town, the trail is a paved path parallel to US 64. In town, the trail is the sidewalk. Several routes lead from the trail to Festival Park with a combination of sidewalk and on-street biking. The park has a dedicated bike and walking trail. Use of the bike trail is free. Parking for the northern portion of the trail is available in Manteo and at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site.
