The Silver Comet Trail is a 61.5 mile paved trail for non-motorized activities such as walking and bicycling. Completed in 2008, the trail begins at the Mavell Road trailhead in Smyrna, Georgia about 2.5 miles by road from exit 16 on I-285 that circles Atlanta. The trail ends at the Alabama state line where it becomes the Chief Ladiga trail to Anniston. The Georgia trail was named for the New York to Birmingham streamlined passenger train that began service in 1947. The combined trail is over 93 miles long. We chose to bike the trail over several days in November 2014. Our first day, we rode 22.2 miles from Mavell Road in Smyrna to Rambo Nursery in Dallas, Georgia.
